Registrations for November’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) opened yesterday. Last year 42,000 people signed up, and 6,000 made it to the 50,000-word requirement.
Ive wanted to do this for years, but always had too much time on my hands. You need serious time constraints to turn out novel in a monthotherwise youd fuss with every line.
This year, I’m tempted to sign up. Anybody in?
I’m in. I think. Knock wood. I completed it when I did it 2 years ago. And now it’s time to write the next one. It took me 1-2 hours a day x 5 days a week for the month to churn out the required 50,000 words. I did not stop to edit or think. I just wrote. And it was wonderful to realize that I really could do it.
Are you in?

I’m in if I can find some inspiration between now and then.

Do pictures count as “1000 words”?

I hope so, Dave. By November 20th, I’ll be searching Flickr for pirated images to turn it into a pop-up book. Or maybe a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure after 4,000 words.

It’s overly ambitious to expect 50,000 words but I’ll plod along and see what germinates.

That sounds exactly like the kind of kick-in-the-arse deadline I need to stop proscratinating and just write.
